REACHING FOR HOPE MINISTRIES (RHM)

RHM is a nonprofit religious corporation operating on biblical principles and it is organized in California under the United States’ Internal Revenue Code section 501(c) (3). Its overall purpose is to relieve the suffering, especially for youth and young adults equipping and empowering them to live better and meaningful lives on this earth and preparing them for eternal life. The goal of RHM is to reach out to young people, through two main projects, SAFARI for Jesus and INVEST for Jesus. The first, SAFARI for Jesus, trains and equips the youth mostly from countries where churches are declining and sends them back to revitalize declining churches and plan new congregations. The second, INVEST for Jesus, helps young and young adults from the third world countries equipping them with skills to create their own livelihood businesses in forms of outpost centers which, will potentially impact communities around them for better living in this life and for the life to come.

Project Background

Dr. Phodidas Ndamyumugabe who is the founding member, was born, and went to school in Rwanda until the college level. Upon completing his doctorate from the Philippines, he returned and worked as a college professor at the Adventist University of Central Africa. During his time in Rwanda, as he contributed to the graduation of thousands, many of whom could not get the jobs they had hoped for, he realized there was a gap between the formal higher learning education and the practical job market.

During his stay in Rwanda, Dr. Phodidas took the initiative to help as many as possible young people to create their own jobs. Calling some friends, he founded a microfinance institution, Goshen Finance, which, he also served as president of the board of directors during the first 10 years. Goshen finance started when other financial institutions were crumbling probably due to inexperience and/or poor management.

The microfinance started with only about $23,000 as an investment from the shareholders. The business had grown at about 400% when Dr. Phodidas left the institution handing it over to the current board of directors. Currently, Goshen Finance, has about 52,000 clients across Rwanda and it has created several thousands of jobs over the years.

INVEST for JESUS as a project came into focus when several young people, many of whom had been Dr. Phodidas’ students in college, were hopelessly contacting him hoping to get jobs from the microfinance. This overwhelming need made him think of creating a nonprofit organization with the purpose of creating jobs for as many young people as possible. This would also be an opportunity to reach the unreached with the gospel message of hope and Biblical Christian values, which can be key for genuine economic success also

SAFARI for JESUS

Several Churches in North America and elsewhere in the world are declining. Many young people abandon the church and faith during their college age. This project is about helping youth to be on fire for Jesus and get involved in church life and ministries that fits their gifts and talents. It is an attempt to equip and prepare them in order that they will use their time, talents and gifts for a meaningful contagious Christianity.

From the entire biblical perspective, the training shall aim at proving the relevance and uniqueness of the biblical message and its role in transforming lives and preparing people for the second coming of Jesus. The role of the Christian youth in making it happen will be highlighted. Upon completion, young people will be encouraged to offer a considerable time in declining churches in North America or elsewhere in a cross-cultural mission field before they go back to their home churches. Alternatively, they may choose to return immediately to their local/conferences and get involved in supportive ministries.

RHM ADMINISTRATION

Reaching for Hope Ministries takes spiritual and visionary leadership as key for success in a Christian ministry. RHM board members and administrators believe they have a great mission and that they have been called to cooperate with God to help the youth
live meaningful and impactful lives thus becoming a blessing to communities around them.

RHM leadership believes in servant leadership, which is the model of our Savior’s leadership. We understand we have a high calling for a great mission and we are determined to always aim higher endeavoring to reflect the character the highest attributes of the character of God. We are convinced that it is the cooperation and dependence on God, upholding His principles of love, holiness, and justice that we will be able to accomplish our Mission.

Currently, the administration is still under formation and Dr. Phodidas Ndamyumugabe, who is the founder of RHM serves as president. The needs are immense, the opportunities endless. Please keep our leaders in your prayers.
